‘Sevilla can challenge Madrid, Barca…’

Colombian striker Luis Muriel has challenged his Sevilla teammates to challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain this season.

The 26-year-old became the Andalucian club’s record signing this summer when they signed him in a €20m deal from Italian club Udinese.

“Our aim is to consolidate our name not just among the top four or five sides in Spain but also at the top end of European football,” Muriel told an interview with Diario AS.

“Real Madrid have appeared unbeatable in recent years but I’m convinced our side can beat them, and Barcelona too.

“Maybe in the past there were sides who you would face when you think you’d lost before the match starts, but this isn’t the case anymore and we believe we can win every game.

“The amount of money that the club has invested in me is a big motivator, I was very young when I joined Granada (in 2011) and I made a lot of mistakes.

“In Serie A, I grew used to finding spaces even when there were none. In Spain there is a lot of space and I think I can make use of my characteristics.

“The Champions League? We need to progress through the group stages and then we shall see."
