Geis: Sevilla no stepping stone

New Sevilla midfielder Johannes Geis believes the Andalucians are one of Europe’s leading clubs and not ‘a stepping stone’ to elsewhere.

The 24-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos from Bundesliga club Schalke on a season-long loan deal worth a reported €2m, with an option to sign of €7m next summer.

“I don't consider Sevilla a stepping stone in my career,” Geis told the Sevilla club website.

“It's a leading club and if I do well and the club wants me, why not stay? That's something I would like.

“The Coach has told me what he expects from me, direct football and high pressure…I’m going to need time to adapt, but I want to learn Spanish and help my teammates.

“Where I feel most comfortable is in the most defensive central-midfield position, but I can adapt to what the boss wants.”

Geis has represented Germany at all youth levels above the Under-16s, although he failed to hold down a first-team place in two seasons with Schalke.
