‘You’ll see real Mudo & Sevilla…’

Franco Vazquez assures “you’ll see a better me and the real Sevilla” as the season progresses.

Vazquez has yet to appear for Sevilla this term due to a thigh injury, but the attacking midfielder is verging on a return and believes he will improve on his seven La Liga goals from the previous campaign.

“Hopefully you’ll see a better me. I’m working for that to happen and we have the team and squad to fight at the top,” the Italo-Argentine told Estadio Deportivo.

“I’m happy with how my recovery’s going after a difficult time out because it was the first time I’d been away for so long. I hope to get back up to speed soon.

“I had to adapt last season but achieved good numbers, and I always want to improve and keep growing.

“Our objective is to be among the top four [in La Liga, fight with the best teams again, pass the group stage of the Champions League, going as far as possible in it, and do the same in the Copa del Rey.

“Mixed start to the season? You haven’t seen the real Sevilla yet, but the main thing was to qualify for the Champions League and we fulfilled that objective.

“Over time, you’ll see the best Sevilla, working day by day. We must be happy about playing in such a beautiful and competitive tournament for another year.

“Now we must try to improve. We have to improve a lot, but gradually you’ll see the best Sevilla.

“Some top players have arrived and we’ve kept several of those who had a very good previous campaign.

“Berizzo? He’s similar to Sampaoli because he also likes the idea of pressing high and keeping the ball, although he’s possibly more direct.

“Jorge asked us for more control of the ball, but they’re still very similar: they’re very intense, they like us to press high and win the ball back quickly.

“There’s a lot of competition here but there’ll be some very important matches, so I think there’ll be a place for everyone.

“Banega and Ganso? We’ll all get minutes. Obviously we’ll fight for the place [of No 10], but we always have to act as teammates and if someone’s playing in your place, you have to support them because if the team are doing well then everyone benefits.”
