Aquilani: Boateng told me to join UDLP

Las Palmas signing Alberto Aquilani has revealed his decision to move to Gran Canaria was based on the advice of Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Ghanaian international Boateng left Los Amarillos earlier this month but played a key role in enticing the 33-year-old, formerly of Roma and Liverpool, to pen a two-year deal at the island club.

“Prince told me about here and how it’s an amazing place to play,” Aquilani is quoted as saying by Diario AS.

“I’m really looking forward to starting this new chapter in my career – this league has always been attractive to me.

“I received offers from other clubs but I decided to come to Las Palmas. I like the way the team plays and the way they move the ball around and keep possession.

“There are very good players at this club and I believe I can add experience and technique.”

Aquilani began his career at Roma, before moving to Liverpool in 2009 as a replacement for Xabi Alonso.

However, the Italian struggled with injuries and went on to play for Juventus, Milan, Fiorentina, Sporting CP, Pescara and Sassuolo.

He also played 38 times and scored five times for his country, representing them at the 2013 Confederations Cup and the World Cup a year later.
