Midfielder Marcelo Diaz has departed Celta Vigo to join Mexican club Club Universidad Nacional (Pumas), it has been confirmed.
The Chilean midfielder’s exit from Estadio Balaidos had looked inevitable after he was omitted from their pre-season friendlies including their tour of England.
The former Basel and Hamburg man had been linked with a move to Real Betis, but their signing of Javi Garcia ruled out that option.
30-year-old Diaz signed for Celta from Hamburg in 2015 and has made 40 La Liga appearances across two seasons in Spain.
