Betis ‘closing’ Javi Garcia deal

Real Betis are close to completing the signing of Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Javi Garcia, vice president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer has revealed.

Speaking at the presentation of Ryad Boudebouz – the club’s eighth summer signing – there was confirmation the former Manchester City midfielder was close to Betis, while out-of-favour duo Didier Digard and Roman Zozulya will both leave the club.

“Javi Garcia? We need to close the legal forms but we are happy with where we are with him,” Serra Ferrer told reporters.

“He is an exceptional player and would be important for us, but we cannot say anymore at this moment.

“We are still looking for further opportunities, there is always room to strengthen your squad when the market is open.

“Munir? He’s a very good player but we are not in negotiations with him.

“Digard and Zozulya? We are looking for solutions that benefit everyone, they both have offers and we will negotiate for deals and do what is best for us and for the players.

“We are hopeful of incorporating more players into the squad from the youth team, there is excellent talent there and you can see that in pre-season – there will be more given a chance.”
