Setien: Door open to more signings

Real Betis Coach Quique Setien admits the club’s ‘door is open’ to more signings but insisted the players must be the right fit for the club.

Heavy media speculation has linked them to a move for Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Javi Garcia, having made Montpellier playmaker Ryad Boudebouz their eighth summer arrival since Setien took the post.

Defenders Jordi Amat (Swansea) and Antonio Barragan (Middlesbrough) have returned to Spain from England, while Betis have also moved for Alaves defender Zouhair Feddal, while midfielders Andres Guardado (PSV) and Victor Camarasa (Levante), winger Cristian Tello (Barcelona and striker Sergio Leon (Osasuna) have all arrived.

"The door is open for more signings of course,” Setien told Canal Sur ahead of the new season.

“Sometimes you have to accept the market does not always offer what you need but we believe there are still aspects missing and we will work on them.

“Ryad Boudebouz? He’s a great footballer, we can all see this, so I’m delighted to have him on board with us – we haven’t seen him as a person yet but we can assure him he will love it here and we will love him.

“We intend to incorporate more youth team players in…these boys are Beticos in their blood and many will stay and train with us, I will play them when I believe it’s possible and is right.

“The win over Milan? It was a highlight of pre-season, which has been a learning curve and I will not base any predictions for these season on it!

“However, that game prepared us well for the league opener against Barcelona, where we must have our highest levels of concentration if we are to be successful.”
