Kranevitter completes €8m Zenit move

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Zenit Saint Petersburg for the sale of midfielder Matias Kranevitter, it has been confirmed.

Los Rojiblancos are set to recoup the entire €8m for the Argentine midfielder that they spent to sign him from River Plate in 2015.

The 24-year-old made only 11 appearances for the club and spent last season on loan at Sevilla, he becomes the fourth Argentine to join Zenit this summer following Sebastian Driussi, Leandro Paredes and Emanuel Mammana.

“Atletico de Madrid and Saint Petersburg’s FC Zenit have reached an agreement for the transfer of Matias Kranevitter,” read an Atleti statement.

“From Atletico de Madrid we thank him for the effort he made during the time that he had defended our colours and wish him the best luck in this new phase.”

Las Palmas were said to be among the clubs interested in Kranevitter but Atleti’s desire to sell him permanently drove his move to Russia.

His arrival should free up the exit of Spaniard Javi Garcia, who looks likely to return to La Liga and has been linked to both Real Betis and Malaga.Los Rojiblancos are set to recoup the entire €8m for the Argentine midfielder that they spent to sign him from River Plate in 2015.
