Ramos: Madrid would welcome Mbappe

Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid would “welcome” Kylian Mbappe but insists discussing the Monaco starlet’s arrival is “a waste of time”.

Madrid have long been considered the favourites to sign Mbappe, who would command a fee in the region of €180m, and Ramos admitted the forward was “a great player” without going into too much detail.

“Every year is different. When you win everything, it’s much better and that’s always good,” the defender said at a Press conference for Saturday’s Clasico friendly against Barcelona.

“You have to keep that ambition intact. I’m happy in this sport and I’ll try to give a good level for as many more years as possible.

“Clasico? It’s true that it’s difficult to believe [a Clasico is going ahead] at this point, but they’ve decided that the best teams will face each other and they’ll be facing each other in a Clasico.

“[This Clasico] isn’t as demanding as they are during a season, but knowing you have games like these, it puts you under a lot of stress.

“It’s what we’re going to be doing all season long, but it’s always good to face the best teams.

“Mbappe? Talking about players that don’t belong to our club is a waste of time.

“He’s a great player, but we’ve been doing things very well and our squad is very good.

“Ultimately, money dictates football. Everyone pays what they want and what they can.

“These kinds of decisions don’t pass through me, but any player who’s come here has been welcomed, although discussing rumours like these is a waste of time.

“We don’t like to lose, not even in friendlies. We have to give this game the same importance as our last one because we’re working to recover our physical shape, but it’ll be much better if we get a good result.”
