Ruben Castro acquitted of abuse charges

Ruben Castro, who last month was loaned from Real Betis to Chinese Super League club Guizhou Hengfeng, has been acquitted of domestic abuse charges.

The Criminal Court of Seville cleared the 36-year-old of four counts of assault on his ex-girlfriend of the incidents that reportedly occurred between 2012 and 2013.

The prosecution was asking for between four and eight years in jail for the footballer and an appeal on the decision may yet be launched.

The charges had related to alledged physical and verbal abuse by the former Las Palmas strike on his former partner, but the court has decided she 'lied about and manipulated' the events.
