Everton will trigger Viera clause

Everton will trigger the €30m release clause of Las Palmas attacking midfielder Jonathan Viera as they continue to rebuild their squad, say reports in Spain.

According to Marca, the Toffees will activate the clause after Swansea City’s €25m bid for the 27-year-old was knocked back by Los Amarillos.

Both Canarias7 and WalesOnline had reported the Swans would use some of the funds from a potential sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson to complete the deal for a like-for-like replacement.

The Icelandic midfielder has been linked with a move to Goodison Park but these latest developments may scupper that move.

The former Valencia and Rayo Vallecano player rejoined his hometown club in 2014 and has netted 24 league goals in three campaigns, with Newcastle United also said to be interested.
