‘Vitolo failed us a person’, blasts Castro

Sevilla president Jose Castro has launched a scathing attack on Vitolo stating ‘he has failed us as a person’ and ‘used’ the club for more money.

The 27-year-old winger’s release clause of €37.5m was triggered by Atletico Madrid who will sign the Spain international in January after a loan stint at hometown side Las Palmas.

"If you can’t trust someone, you can’t do any more," the Andalusians' chief told the club media.

"Here we have given everything. What I feel is indignation. The reality is that he has used Sevilla to earn more money at Atletico.

"He has left the club very badly. He has made us look bad for not keeping his word. The club made a huge effort for him to stay.

“He has failed us as a person. He begged us to fix a problem that he had created.

"What happened with Vitolo is summed up by me in one word: indignation.

“For a long time there has been a PR operation and we are outraged alongside the attitude of third parties and with the two clubs that our relationship has deteriorated with.

"I do not regret having gone public, because over the weekend I had several calls from Vitolo and many WhatsApp messages asking me to solve his problem.

"He did not want to return to Sevilla and he wanted me to accept Atletico paying his release clause in instalments. I told him it was impossible.

“I defended the club. He insisted and I said no.

"All day long we were talking; I also spoke with the vice president. We talked about the possibility of getting closer to the wage that Atletico had offered him.

“Vitolo then told me that he was fully satisfied, how pleased he was and told me to defend him before the fans.

"He sent me messages and told me that he agreed, that he gives me his word. We were preparing the documentation. We wrote the agreement and gave the go ahead."
