Roma rule out Vela move

Roma sporting director Monchi has ruled out the Italian giants making a move for Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela.

Reports in Italy and Spain had linked the Mexico international – who scored nine goals in 31 La Liga appearances last season – with a move to the Giallorossi.

“Vela, [Florian] Thauvin and [Hatem] Ben Arfa are good players, but today are not the priorities of Roma,” Monchi is quoted by Marca as telling reports.

“The names in my head are others, ones that have not been in the press.”

The 28-year-old’s contract at the Anoeta expires in June 2018 and has previously linked with a host of clubs in the US including the Colorado Rapids, the Chicago Fire, and the San Jose Earthquakes.

Vela has played a key role in La Real's attack across six years with the club, scoring 69 goals in 230 league and cup appearances, while he has also netted 15 times in 51 national appearances for Mexico.
