Betis on course for €1.5m Guardado

Real Betis are closing in on the €1.5m signing of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Andres Guardado, according to reports in Spain.

Marca state Los Verdiblancos are in discussions with the Dutch giants for the Mexican international, who has previously played in Spain for Deportivo La Coruna and Valencia.

New Betis Coach Quique Setien is reportedly particularly keen on the 30-year-old midfielder, who he believes is ideal for the ‘pivot’ midfield role which Roque Mesa performed so successfully for him at Las Palmas.

A number of MLS-based sides are also interested in the midfielder, who’s preference is to stay in Europe, as reported by Diario AS on Monday.

The Seville-based clubs are hopeful of swifts conclusions for Guardado – in the final year of his contract – and Middlesbrough full back Antonio Barragan, having already signed Sergio Leon, Victor Camarasa and Cristian Tello.
