Playoffs: Getafe return to La Liga!

Getafe have returned to La Lifa after a one-year absence, courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate victory over Tenerife.

Getafe were trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Tenerife, but they made a lightning start on Saturday as former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Alejandro Faurlin turned in a corner on the half-volley on just nine minutes.

Three minutes later, ex-Liverpool attacker Dani Pacheco hit a first-time finish past Daniel Hernandez, but Tenerife managed to pull one back almost immediately through Anthony Lozano, who slid home a low cross.

Hernandez then made a fine stop to his right to keep out Chuli’s outswinging drive, but he could do nothing about Pacheco’s close-range volley eight minutes before half-time.

The second saw El Geta look to preserve their slender advantage, and despite Amath Diedhou’s overhead kick from a couple of yards flying inches wide, their fans were able to engage in a good-natured pitch invasion after the final whistle.
