Official: Alaves have new Coach

Alaves have appointed young Argentine Luis Zubeldia as their new Coach, subject to approval by UEFA.

A statement on Alaves’ website confirms Zubeldia has signed a one-year contract, although his non-European background means he must be reviewed by UEFA before he can formally take charge.

The 36-year-old was forced to quit playing football at just 23 due to injury but has already overseen more than 300 professional matches with clubs in Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico and Colombia.

If approved, he will succeed countryman Mauricio Pellegrino, who guided the Basques to ninth in their first season back in La Liga and the Copa del Rey Final.
