Berizzo ‘deserves’ Sevilla – Aspas

Iago Aspas believes former Celta Vigo Coach Eduardo Berizzo would ‘fully deserve’ to replace Jorge Sampaoli at Sevilla.

Berizzo confirmed his departure from the Galicians at the weekend amid speculation he could replace Sampaoli – who is wanted by Argentina – at the helm at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

“He would fully deserve to take such a high-profile role,” Celta striker Aspas told ABC de Sevilla.

“At Celta he was very impressive and all the players respected him – a good Coach is one who is able to get the best out of his players and that is certainly true of him.

“He made sure I kept improving and the whole team would agree, we’ve all grown as players under him and we will miss him.

“Yes I dedicated my final goal of the season (on the last day against Real Sociedad) to him, I had to find him and thank him personally as we knew he was leaving.

“We knew when he was appointed things would not be easy – I had just signed for Sevilla but knowing Luis Enrique had left Celta and they were not the richest club, things might be complicated.

“Since Berizzo arrived in Vigo we started to go up and up – only two seasons before they had finished 17th but then suddenly they were in the top half most seasons.”
