Alaves see off fatigued Celta

Celta Vigo’s league form continued to pay the price for prioritising the Europa League as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to an impressive Alaves.

First half goals from Manu Garcia, Zouhair Feddal and Deyverson gave the Basque side total control over a fatigued Galician side, before a late Iago Aspas penalty added some respectability for Eduardo Berizzo’s side.

Celta have now lost seven of their last eight league outings – many of which have seen numerous changes from their strongest line-up – and they have now slipped to 13th in La Liga.

Alaves are now unbeaten in six games as they prepare for their Copa del Rey showdown against Barcelona at the end of the month, and they will finish their league campaign with a match at Leganes.

The Galicians will now finish their league campaign with two home matches – the rearranged February fixture against Real Madrid followed by a clash with Real Sociedad.
