Marcelino’s Valencia decision imminent

Former Villarreal Coach Marcelino is to inform Valencia of his decision to join them before Thursday, say reports in Spain.

Los Che have confirmed that current boss Voro will leave his role at the end of the current campaign and reportedly held talks with Marcelino’s agent Eugenio Botas last week.

Marca report the 51-year-old is ‘highly persuaded’ by the offer to move to the Mestalla but also has potential offers from Italian giants AS Roma and Inter Milan.

Marcelino was dismissed by Villarreal on the eve of the current campaign, replaced by Fran Escriba and reportedly was targeted by Valencia to replace the outgoing Pako Ayesteran last September, but were informed he had technically already managed one La Liga side that campaign.

AS reported last week that general manager Mateu Alemany and sporting director Jose Ramon Alexanco are in agreement over Marcelino and have “initiated contact” with the Asturian.

Outgoing Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien and Celta’s Eduardo Berizzo have also been reported to be under consideration.

Ayesteran was one of three permanent managers at the Mestalla this season along with Voro and Cesare Prandelli but despite a recent upturn in form, they still lie 13th in the division.
