Morata: I want to play more

Alvaro Morata admits he has played less than he would have liked for Real Madrid this season but insists he will not kick up a fuss.

Morata took his goal tally to 20 for the season with a brace in Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Granada on Saturday, and he reflected on his situation at the club after the game, amidst ongoing speculation about his future.

“I’m not thinking about vindicating myself,” explained the striker.

“I want to win the League and Champions League like everyone else.

“It’s going to be difficult, but if we win all our remaining games, we’ll be champions in two competitions.

“I’d like to play in every game, like everybody else. You always want to contribute wherever you are.

“I always want to go out and score, but there are times when you can’t.

“Playing less than I hoped? Sure, but I’m always ready for when the Coach needs me and that’s the important thing.

“More goals than Benzema? The fans think this more than I do.

“I don’t think about scoring more goals than a teammate, only to score. I’m at 20 [goals] and it’s a good number.

“My Atletico grandfather? He’s lived long enough, but I haven’t talked to him much. This is football.

“It’s been a long time since we won the League, and the Champions League is the Champions League.

“We have to win the games we have left and we’ll do well if we do.

“A Madrid-Juve final? Destiny is destiny.

“Talking to Simeone at the Bernabeu? it had nothing to do with football, we shared a joke.”
