Voro to vacate Valencia role

Voro Gonzalez has confirmed that he will stand down as Valencia Coach at the end of the season but will stay on in a different capacity.

Voro was appointed Valencia caretaker for a fifth time after Cesare Prandelli’s resignation at the end of last year and has since guided Los Che to nine wins in 23 La Liga games, but he will make way for a new man over the summer.

“Yesterday the club officially informed me that they were looking for a new Coach,” the club legend said at a Press conference for Sunday’s visit of relegated Osasuna.

“Like in so many Press conferences, I told you that the club would decide how and when.

“Yesterday I was told and that’s it. The decision was made known to me by [sporting director Jose Ramon] Alexanco when he came back from the airport.

“I haven’t said anything to the squad, the first time I’ve said it publicly is in here. I’ll continue to work at Valencia. I don’t know in which role.

“Career as a Coach? I’m here due to a situation that’s been experienced by the club and ultimately they thought of me.

“I have a relationship with the club that’s been very well defined from the outset. The fact that this comes now isn’t a problem for me.

“I’ve been a player and Coach and having been on this trajectory for many months as a Coach, it’s something that you always have inside.

“Still, I wasn’t thinking about making a point just so the club would lean on me for another season.

“I see [the decision] in the most normal way. It’s been a very difficult year, a Coach has resigned, so has a sporting director and the President.

“I understand that the club will bring in a new face with another philosophy.

“I understand that certain people are about to make these decisions, they’re able to make these decisions in the future to form the team.

“If you ask me, I’ll say it’s for the best because the best thing for the club is the best for me and the best for everyone.”
