Iraizoz to leave Athletic Club

Athletic Club Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz will leave the club this summer after a decade, club president Josu Urrutia has confirmed.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper has notched up 390 appearances for the Basque club whom he joined from Espanyol in 2007, having initially progressed through Athletic’s youth ranks and represented Bilbao Athletic.

"Next season Iraizoz will not continue with us,” Urrutia told a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“I talked to him and thanked him for his behavior during these ten years.

“Next week we will probably give a press conference with Gorka Iraizoz."

Iraizoz never earned a cap for the Spanish national side but has played 14 times for the Basque country and won the 2006 Copa Del Rey with Espanyol, alongside a runners up medal in the 2007 UEFA Cup. At Athletic, he won the 2015 Spanish Supercopa with a 5-1 aggregate victory over Barcelona.

Urrutia confirmed that Athletic would seek to renew current back-up goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s deal at San Mames.
