Adams: Granada future very bright

Tony Adams believes “the future is very bright” for Granada, despite their “heartbreaking” relegation from La Liga on Saturday.

Granada’s six-year spell in the top flight was ended by a 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad, which also marked the side’s fourth straight loss under Adams.

“It’s a very sad day for everyone connected with Granada,” the former Arsenal and England defender told the club’s official website.

“The owner is obviously very disappointed, a lot of mistakes have been made this season. It’s just a very, very sad day for everyone connected with the club.

“The players? They’re down, they’re heartbroken. We’re all sad, the players, the fans, everybody. There’s been a lot of mistakes and we know that.

“We’re going to try and rectify it, make sure there’s a better future and rebound very quickly, but at the moment we just want to say that it’s a very sad day for everybody connected with the club.”

“The future is very bright. We’ve made mistakes this season, that’s why we’re where we are.

“For instance, if the team played like this (today) at the beginning of the season, there’s no way we’d be in this situation.

“I thought they were incredible today, but it’s not a day for incredible, It’s too late, you’re down, you’re finished, it’s over.

“We’ve got a lot of those players in that dressing room, we’re going to be some team in the second division, so the future is bright and we are not making mistakes any more.

“We think that we can build a very successful club at Granada and rebound as quickly as possible.

“But for everyone today, it’s not about that. It’s about acknowledging the fact that mistakes have been made this season and we’re all sad about that.”

“The fans? They’re in enormous pain. They’ve not seen much entertainment this season.

“Mistakes have been made by three coaches, and three fitness coaches, and sports directors, and we’ve got where we’ve got.

“My job is to start repairing all that and to make sure we don’t make any more mistakes in the future.

“Manuel [Salvador] has come in this week, which is very bright and the first peg in the new structure of Granada.”
