Real Sociedad kept their hopes of European football alive as a 3-2 victory at Valencia brought them back into the top six in La Liga.

A first-minute own goal from Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves and early Willian Jose penalty put La Real in control, before a Mikel Oyarzabal strike made it a three-goal cushion at the midway point of the second half.

However, Luis Nani brought the hosts back into proceedings with a penalty before Simone Zaza netted to set up a tense finale at the Mestalla.

Eusebio Sacristan’s side are now up to sixth in the table after a third victory in four games – although rivals Athletic Club will leapfrog them with a win over Betis on Thursday – while Valencia are now without a win in three and stay 12th.
