Preview: Celta-Betis

A much-changed Celta Vigo must beat Real Betis on Sunday to keep their flagging hopes of a top-six finish in La Liga alive.

The likes of Hugo Mallo, Pablo Hernandez, Daniel Wass and Iago Aspas have been rested by Coach Eduardo Berizzo, whose Celta side lie nine points outside the Europa League places with a game in hand but are just three wins away from a first-ever continental trophy.

“It’s a crucial week because we’re going to play three very important matches,” the Argentine said at a Press conference.

“Our results will indicate whether our run continues. If we win, we’ll get hooked on to the train. If we don’t, the maths will tell us something else.”

Betis, meanwhile, all-but-secured their top-flight status last weekend with a 2-0 victory over Eibar, which arrested a run of three straight defeats and eased the pressure on boss Victor Sanchez, although top goalscorer Ruben Castro is only a substitute for the trip to Balaidos.

“After a positive result, everything is better. We already know how the world works,” noted the former Deportivo La Coruna man.

“We’ll see if we can win two straight games and generate a much more positive current.

“Plans for next season? There’s been no changes yet, the most important thing is this match and our attention is on that.”
