Valverde to leave Athletic – report

Ernesto Valverde has informed Athletic Club Bilbao he is leaving amidst speculation he will replace Luis Enrique at Barcelona, say reports.

Mundo Deportivo states the 53-year-old has informed the Basques that he will leave the club when his current contract expires in June, allowing him to move to Camp Nou.

Juan Carlos Unzue – Enrique’s current number two – is viewed as Valverde’s main challenger but the report suggests the club, whilst not having finalised their decision, are increasingly swaying towards the idea of the Athletic Club boss.

Sevilla are also reportedly keen to be monitoring Valverde’s situation if Jorge Sampaoli does decide upon leaving the club to take up a role with Argentina.

However, the Catalan paper is confident the former Espanyol, Villarreal and Olympiakos Coach will be in charge of the Blaugrana next season.El Mundo Deportivo state the 53-year-old has informed the Basque club he will leave the club when his current contract expires in June, allowing him to move to the Camp Nou.
