Granada appoint ex-Arsenal captain Adams

Granada have confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams as Coach until the end of the season.

The LaLiga strugglers announced on Monday the departure of Lucas Alcaraz following the 3-1 home defeat to Valencia on Sunday and that Adams would be his successor.

Adams represented Arsenal between 1983 and 2002, making more than 500 appearances for the London club and winning the title on four occasions.

He also claimed the FA Cup three times, the League Cup twice and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

Adams won 66 England caps between his international debut in 1987 and his final appearance in 2000, captaining his country on a regular basis.

The 50-year-old spent a year as manager of Wycombe Wanderers, between 2003 and 2004, and took over as Portsmouth manager in 2008 after Harry Redknapp left for Tottenham Hotspur, having previously been Redknapp’s assistant.

Adams also worked at Azerbaijan’s Gabala between 2010 and 2012.

Granada are currently second-bottom of LaLiga, with 20 points from 31 games. Adams’ first game in charge will be at home to Celta Vigo on April 16.
