Celta-Madrid ‘between final matchdays’

La Liga President Javier Tebas has confirmed that Celta Vigo and Real Madrid’s postponed clash will be played between the final two matchdays.

The match at Balaidos on February 5 was not played due to torrential weather conditions, which resulted in damage to part of the stadium.

“The only dates available are between the final and penultimate matchdays,” he told BeIN Sports USA.

“The year doesn’t have 400 days and the Club World Cup didn’t change its dates, so there’s nothing we can do. The loaded fixture list is the fault of international competitions.

“Because of this handicap, we won’t be able to unify the penultimate day. What else can we do?

“Only the times of the final matchday can be unified due to the postponement of this game. There have been complaints from other clubs.”

The final two rounds of La Liga fixtures have been played at the same times in recent seasons to eliminate any suspicion of foul play.

Consequently, Mundo Deportivo expects Celta-Madrid to be played on Wednesday May 17.
