Sampaoli issues Sevilla warning

Jorge Sampaoli warned his Sevilla players after Saturday’s 1-1 with Leganes that “we’ll find it very difficult in the Champions League” with a repeat showing.

Sevilla fell to their second straight draw in La Liga, leaving the side five points behind leaders Real Madrid, who beat the Andalusians’ arch-rivals Real Betis a day later, and Sampaoli admitted his players needed to fix up and fast.

“With a performance like this, we’ll find it very difficult in the Champions League,” the Coach said after the game.

“These are bigger commitments, involving teams that don’t give any room for error. If we don’t improve in terms of controlling a game before Tuesday then it’ll be very difficult.

“Beyond these two draws, the team haven’t lost for eight games, but we have to make ourselves responsible for more things.

“The reason why we draw is that we lacked our footballing instinct and that prevented us from creating chances against teams that play differently.

“The solution is to continue relating ourselves to games. There are teams that are very quick but anxious and then ones like today, who are very orderly and imposing.”
