Segunda side Rayo Vallecano have sacked Coach Ruben Baraja following a 2-1 loss to Mirandes at the weekend, leaving the club in 16th place.

The former Valencia midfielder was only appointed to the Rayo job three months ago but has been fired after winning just four of his 13 matches in charge.

"The club must thank [Baraja] for his professionalism and we wish him the best in the future," said Rayo Vallecano in a statement on their website.

Los Franjirrojos are only one point off the relegation zone and three points ahead of bottom-placed Almeria in what is a typically tightly-congested Segunda table.
