Sporting director departs Granada

Granada have parted company with sporting director Javier Torralbo – also known as ‘Piru’ – less than a year after he assumed the role.

Piru was responsible for drafting in 22 of the current El Grana squad – 16 of which are loan deals – over the course of two transfer windows, with the team breaking a La Liga record on Friday night for fielding eleven different nationalities in their starting eleven.

"I want to thank Piru for his work and all his efforts during these nine months in which he has been the sports director of our club,” said club president John Jiang in a statement on the club’s website.

“From now on, DDMC Football Club Management Company technicians will do the specific work related to transfers for the club.

"After our fantastic win over Betis on Friday, it is very important now that we all focus on helping the players, Coach Lucas Alcaraz and the entire coaching staff to continue fighting to achieve our goal in La Liga."

Piru previously worked in the role for Real Madrid and also worked at Pere Guardiola’s agency Media Base Sport, owned by Mediapro.
