Sampaoli: Barca? You never know…

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli admits “you never know what tomorrow holds” in response to possibly succeeding Luis Enrique at Barcelona.

Sampaoli has been put forward as a leading candidate to replace Enrique in the Barca dugout at the end of the season, and while the Argentine feels scrutiny of his counterpart has been a “little selfish”, he refused to close the door on La Blaugrana.

“Luis Enrique? It’s media speculation that’s a little selfish,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Eibar in La Liga.

“Someone like Luis Enrique, who has achieved so much with the team, shouldn’t be judged.

“The vacancy will arrive when Luis Enrique decides. I'm calm because it’s not up to me.

“I don’t have to explain anything to anyone. I’d feel uneasy if I put myself forward, if I had thought about something other than my badge.

“I’m only thinking about continuing to working here in order to consolidate an idea. [Sevilla] are the club that brought me to Europe.

“It depends on a lot of factors that, in turn, depend on the day to day.

“In this profession, that comment doesn’t give me expectations. You never know what tomorrow holds.

“Our victory over Las Palmas gave us expectations for everything that comes next.

“There’s a strenuous week full of decisions ahead, and of course the Champions League is being thought about, but we must think about Eibar first.

“There’s a step before Wednesday’s game, so we’ll try to prepare the players in the best way physically for these matches.

“Eibar? They’ve showed character and seniority, they’re aware of the resources they have and [they show] their potencies every weekend.

“They come into the game well emotionally, plus they’ll be hungry.”

Sevilla can count on Adil Rami and Sergio Escudero again when they take on Eibar, but Nico Pareja misses out due to a thigh problem. Their opponents’ only absence is captain Dani Garcia, who is both suspended and nursing a hand injury.
