Simeone joy at ’emotional’ win

Diego Simeone praised the never-say-die attitude of his players as they rallied from a goal behind to defeat Celta Vigo with two late goals in Sunday’s late match.

Quickfire goals from Yannick Carrasco and Antoine Griezmann won the game for Atleti in the last five minutes after firstly Gustavo Cabral and then John Guidetti had given Celta the lead – with a golazo from Fernando Torres sandwiched in-between – to give Los Rojiblancos a dramatic win to fire them to fourth.

"We put in an enormous effort today too, especially after Barcelona on Tuesday," Simeone told reporters after the encounter.

"It was a vibrant game, emotional, with many errors, but two teams going for the win.

"Celta made it tough for us with their counters. There was a moment when we looked far from getting back into it. But in the end we turned the situation around thanks to the composure of the players.

"In the last minutes we were relaxed and understood there was a chance to equalise. Then the stadium pushed us to win the game."
