Tebas & ambassador support Zozulya

La Liga president Javier Tebas has met with Ukraine’s ambassador to Spain to discuss the situation of striker Roman Zozulya, currently unable to play football.

The striker signed a loan registration form with Rayo Vallecano from parent club Real Betis on 31st January, but fan protests of the Segunda club due to the perceived politics of the Ukrainian ensured he had to leave for his own safety.

Due to having signed the registration form and having played for both Dnipro and Real Betis this campaign, the only club he is eligible to play for during the remainder of the season is the Vallecas-based side.

La Liga confirmed Tebas and ambassador Anatoliy Scherba agreed "the Spanish government must support the player" and he has a "right to work."

Upon signing for Rayo, the 27-year-old wrote an open letter to the club’s fans dismissing any links to "any paramilitary or neo-Nazi groups” but he was forced to leave, which prompted the players and staff of Betis to release a statement last week declaring their support for him.
