Confusion has erupted over whether Sunday’s clash between Celta Vigo and Real Madrid will go ahead, just 24 hours before its scheduled kick-off.
The match at Celta’s Balaidos stadium was initially confirmed to be postponed by the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, and broadcaster Movistar+.
However, Marca reports Los Blancos are still hopeful of the game being played due to a lack of free dates going forward.
Furthermore, the club do not “understand” that a postponement can be made 36 hours before kick-off.
This comes despite part of the stadium being severely damaged by heavy storms that engulfed the Galician region on Friday.
Madrid believe the stand can be closed off or that the match can be played at a nearby venue, one of which could be Sporting Gijon’s El Molinon.
Talk of postponement has also gone down badly with Alaves, Celta’s opponents in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
The return leg is due to be played at Mendizorroza next Wednesday, but a statement on the Basques’ official website has called for the game to be reinstated so both teams are “on equal footing” in regards to rest.
La Liga has yet to comment on whether the postponement will stand.
