Report – Caicedo to join Villarreal

Felipe Caicedo is on the verge of joining Villarreal from La Liga rivals Espanyol, if the latter can conclude their deal for Sergio Garcia’s return say reports in Spain.

Marca report the Ecuadorian striker’s deal to Fran Escriba’s side will go through ‘late tonight’ due to the slow process of the negotiations between the club and Espanyol will replace him in their squad with a move for former forward Sergio Garcia.

Caicedo is reportedly keen to move clubs and is out of contract in the summer, hence both clubs agreeing a ‘minimal’ fee with Villarreal eager to strengthen their attacking options following the departure of Alexandre Pato while Espanyol had previously confirmed they would consider any deal for him this month.

The former Manchester City striker has hit double figures for the Catalans in each of his two full campaigns at the club after joining from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira Club in 2014, but has only scored one league goal this season in three starts.
