Garcia returns on ‘reserve team’ pay

Sergio Garcia is returning to Espanyol and will reportedly take ‘reserve team wages’ such is his desire to the Catalan club from Qatar.

Garcia left the RCDE Stadium in June 2015 after five seasons in which he appeared in 138 games and scoring 41 goals for Los Periquitos, moving to Qatari side Al-Rayyan.

Both clubs were reportedly keen to do the deal and accommodate the player’s wishes but due to Espanyol being on the brink of going over their wage cap, they could only offer the 33-year-old a fraction of the wages he is currently on according to AS.

However, such was Garcia’s willingness to make the move – less than 18 months after he left with tears in his eyes – he will now take the hit to his wages, which will be upped significantly in the summer whenever the club rejigs their squad and budget.
