Mariano loan move ‘unlikely’

Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz is unlikely to leave the club on a loan deal in January according to Leganes boss Asier Garitano.

The 23-year-old was promoted to Madrid’s senior squad this summer from their Castilla youth team and despite limited playing time he netted a Copa Del Rey hat-trick against Cultural Leonesa before grabbing his first La Liga goal on Saturday against Deportivo La Coruna.

Leganes were a number of teams interested in bringing the striker in on loan over the summer, along with Malaga and Las Palmas, however it now appears unlikely he will depart in January.

"I don't know if he will leave – I don't think so,” explained Garitano.

"We were missing players in that position, centre-forward, but now we have three. We need players in other positions now – in midfield, at centre-back and goalkeeper."

Diaz is officially the most productive player in Europe’s top five league having hit five goals in just 123 minutes of action for Los Blancos.
