Jemez appointed at Cruz Azul

Paco Jemez has been confirmed as the new head coach of Mexican side Cruz Azul, less than two months after being sacked by Granada.

The 46-year-old was dismissed by Granada after only six games following a slow start to the season where he collected only two points from his opening six matches and was not allowed to take over another Spanish club this season.

Most famous for a four-year stint at Rayo Vallecano, Jemez becomes the Mexican side's first Spanish coach in their history.

"I can't coach in Spain this year, so it's time to go abroad," Jemez told Marca ahead of his move.

"Staying still all year wasn't something that was in my head."

Jemez – who had been linked with the Spanish national team earlier this year – joins a club who are without a league title since 1997 and finished the season 14th,
