QSF: More than win needed

Quique Sanchez Flores insists that despite Espanyol’s 3-0 win against Leganes in La Liga, his side still have “a lot to do if we want to be a top team”.

Another Gerard Moreno goal and a brace from Pablo Piatti on Sunday made it three wins in four games for Espanyol, six clean sheets in seven and confirmed the Catalans came through October and November unbeaten, but Sanchez Flores would not be swayed by the euphoria.

“I was pleased with the result, connection with the crowd, our will to win and the three points, the latter being the most important thing,” the Coach said after the game.

“Still, if we want to be a top team that leave their mark, we have a lot to do.

“We want to achieve something and, within that something, it means consolidating many things.

“We have resources, we have players, but if we were consolidated, we’d play better.

“Wins give you an extra boost of energy in any case, but we want to do something important.

“We planned to have the ball but noticed that [Leganes’] pressure was effective, so we changed a player [Caicedo for Reyes] because we wanted to play quicker.

“Connection with the fans? It’s one we love. I work for them and if they like how I represent the team then that’s fantastic, but you have to keep it in time and that’s what I work for.”
