Rukavina dismisses Barca rumours

Villarreal full-back Antonio Rukavina has rejected rumours linking him with a move to champions Barcelona, stating there has been no contact.

The 32-year-old Serbian international has been used mainly in Europa League matches by El Submarino Amarillo this season, leading Mundo Deportivo to suggest the Blaugrana have earmarked him as a short-term replacement for Aleix Vidal, who looks set to depart the club.

"It sounds okay but honestly no one has contacted me," Rukavina is quoted as saying in Marca.

"Everything is coming from the media – it's nothing more than speculation."

Barca have deployed Sergi Roberto as first-choice right-back this season following the departure of Dani Alves, as 2015 signing Vidal has not forced his way into Luis Enrique’s plans.

The Catalans have been linked to a number of full-backs to act as cover for Roberto, including Stephan Lichtsteiner and Darijo Srna, while Hector Bellerin – another target – has signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal.
