Barca fail with second Messi appeal

Barcelona have failed with a second appeal against Lionel Messi's booking in their recent 2-1 victory against Sevilla, awarded for time-wasting.

Referee Santiago Jaime Latre showed the Argentine a yellow after he took too long to replace his boot which had fallen off after a challenge by Steven N'Zonzi, a decision which infuriated the visitors.

The Catalans felt the yellow card was harsh as Messi's boot had been visibly damaged, with a first appeal failing with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) last week before again failing with the Appeals Committee on Thursday.

Barcelona now have 15 days to decide whether they want to take the matter to Spain's Administrative Tribunal of Sport but have not yet commented on whether they will take this step.

The club also failed when appealing a booking for time-wasting picked up by the 29-year-old during a win at Valencia in 2014.
