Sandro excited at ‘returning home’

Malaga forward Sandro is excited to ‘return home’ to Barcelona for the first time on Saturday as his new club visit the Camp Nou.

After seven goals in 32 first-team appearances for Barca, the 21-year-old joined Juande Ramos’ men in the summer in search of regular football.

"I'm returning home, returning to Camp Nou," said Sandro.

"It will be a special game because I'll see all my old teammates, who gave me everything when I was promoted to the first team. So I'm really looking forward to it.

"But it's going to be very difficult; we will have to go out with all our weapons. We're going to have to go for the game. We have to score because the statistics show that Barca always score at home, so we have to go for the game to get something from it."

The forward admitted it took him time to adapt to a new club after seven years at the Blaugrana, but having netted five goals in his last seven games, it appears he has re-found his best form.

"You have to adapt to another style of football, another team, different teammates," he continued.

"But I think I'm doing OK, we're doing OK. The most important thing is the team, right? We've got a good dynamic at the moment. We have to continue this way.

"Now we have to go to a difficult ground [the Camp Nou], where you have to go out and give everything. I hope we can continue our good form, but if not we'll work hard to make sure we do [afterwards]."

As for his ambitions with Malaga this season, Sandro has no doubts where they should be aiming.

"The fans and ourselves expect to be much higher because we have a team capable of fighting for Europe," he said.

"Osasuna's late equaliser [at the start of the season] dented our morale, but we continued working, fighting, and we have a team to be up the top and to fight for Europe. We will keep fighting to be where the club and the fans deserve to be."
