Sporting partial stadium ban for abuse

Sporting Gijon have confirmed they have been ordered to partially close their stadium for one match due to alleged racial abuse of an opposition player.

Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams was reported to have suffered the abuse in a match at El Molinon back in August and Sporting said they were informed by the Spanish football federation on Thursday that their punishment would be partial stadium close for one match.

The federation have informed the Asturian club they have a five-day period to identify which sector the abuse stemmed from in the match and to partially close it for one game.

Sporting have said they will appeal the 'unfair and disproportionate' ruling as they have taken all necessary action to combat racism and other forms of abuse inside the stadium.

The 22-year-old Williams is the only black player to score for the Basque club in their 117-year history.
