New Real deal for Zurutuza

Real Sociedad have announced that creative midfielder David Zurutuza has signed a new contract with the club until 2019.

Zurutuza’s contract had been due to expire in the summer, but he has seemingly put his fitness problems behind him this season, completing all-but-two of La Real’s 11 La Liga games to help the side into the top six.

“Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with the player David Zurutuza for the renewal of his contract until June 30, 2019,” read a statement on the Basques’ official website.

“His previous agreement was due to expire in the summer of 2017. Accompanied by President Jokin Aperribay and sporting director Loren, the Txuriurdin midfielder signed his new contract late afternoon [on Friday] in the offices of Anoeta.”

The 30-year-old has always been highly rated by Spanish football circles, but crippling injuries resulted in him making 22 appearances or less in three of the last four campaigns.
