Poyet: Betis silenced rude fans

Gus Poyet slammed a section of Real Betis fans for “bordering on rude” but hoped Friday’s 2-1 win against Osasuna went some way towards silencing them.

Felipe Gutierrez’s late goal ended a run of back-to-back defeats for Betis to take them into the top half of La Liga and eased the pressure on Poyet, who pleaded with supporters to be more patient when chanting “abuse”.

“We put on our working suit,” the Coach said after the game.

“We had to get dirty and do other things because what we were trying to find, above all I as Coach, we weren’t finding, so we rearmed ourselves and went another way.

“This was a game we had to win. We had to rebuild ourselves and adopt another idea for what had happened and our opponents.

“We were able to have a fairly decent game, albeit with complications, and we hope it proves a good line of growth for the future.

“We must be united in a season of building. I know things can go wrong, but the fans have been very vociferous and transmitted a lot of emotion, bordering on rude.

“The family of the players and President don’t deserve [abuse] because we’re making a huge effort to try to take Betis back to where the fans want, but we all need to push together.

“We expect there to be a union with the fans against Espanyol and not a return to insults if things go wrong.”
