Fran Escriba believes a strong defence will be key if Villarreal are to beat Real Sociedad in La Liga on Sunday.
Villarreal earned their first win under Escriba last weekend as they won 2-0 at Malaga, but Escriba reminded his players that La Real’s quality in possession would make securing back-to-back victories a difficult feat.
“[Real’s forwards in the box] aren’t comfortable and can’t be allowed to play,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“The defensive line will be important. We must go on like this and that Real don’t create chances against us.
“They’re a team with important players in attacking midfield, but we’ll try to minimise them.
“The players are tired but have no knocks, and that’s important, but there’s still time to recover and we must keep in mind that we could make changes.
“I don’t like to anticipate line-ups. The team will be recognisable and it’s logical that there will be changes, but it’ll be similar.
“Real are a team that like to have the ball and have players who play like that. Their Coach likes to play from the back, and they do it very well.
“We must ensure they’re not comfortable. We’ll try to stop them from playing because if they grow with the ball, [they’ll show that] they’re a team with great players.”
