Suarez: Leganes surprised us

Luis Suarez admits Barcelona were “surprised” by Leganes’ approach to Saturday’s early La Liga kick-off.

Suarez scored in a 5-1 victory for Barca before being substituted a few minutes shy of an hour at Butarque, but the forward revealed his side were not expecting to be pressed man for man by Leganes.

“We’re human beings and our bodies need rest. I understand it and also the teammate who replaced me,” he said after the game.

“It suits me that the goals come from any of us three, while they are to help the team.

“Another good thing is that we played a rounded game. They came out with a back four but surprised us with their man-to-man marking. It was vital to get the three points.

“What we like the most is to have games and have rhythm. After the defeat to Alaves, we had to approach the game in the best way because our next game is against a direct rival in Atletico.

“I’ll take the victory and the team’s work at a difficult venue.”

Neymar picked up a yellow card for dissent to the referee and was caught arguing with Rafinha directly before Leganes’ consolation goal, but Suarez played the incidents down.

“He has his game and there’s no need to argue over it. He did nothing that was out of place,” he added.

“I feel comfortable and I’m happy to have these teammates and be at the best team in the world. The most important thing is that we won.”
