Leganes facing Mariano disappointment

Leganes hope to get Real Madrid Castilla striker Mariano on loan for the season but the player hopes to convince Zinedine Zidane.

AS reports the newly-promoted side are still looking for ways to bolster their squad and may be in the market for seven or eight players, with the attack the most urgent area of the pitch to strengthen, and Mariano is an objective.

However, despite contact between the club and the player’s representatives intensifying in recent days, Leganes have been told Mariano’s only interest at the moment is to prove to Zizou he deserves a place among the Madrid first team this season, having been part of the squad throughout the summer.

Leganes may not even be able to afford Mariano’s €2m-per-season in wages and have started looking at other options, while holding out hope that the Dominican Republic international has a change of mind.
