Aimar to return to football?

Former Valencia star Pablo Aimar is reportedly on the verge of returning to football in the Argentine fourth tier with his hometown club.

According to Marca, the Punctual de Rio Cuarto newspaper contains Aimar in Estudiantes de Rio Cuarto’s team for next season.

Rio Cuarto is the birthplace of the 36-year-old, who retired from professional football last summer after a long battle with injuries.

Estudiantes de Rio Cuarto play in Torneo Federal B, the fourth tier of Argentina’s League system, and also have Aimar’s brother Andres on their books.

The diminutive No 10 made over 200 appearances for Valencia between 2000 and 2006, having joined from River Plate for €24m.

He went on to win two La Liga titles and the UEFA Cup once, plus reached the 2001 Champions League final, with Los Che, before spending two seasons with Real Zaragoza.
